Rowan-Virtua SOM Family Medicine Residency Program

This is one of two Family Medicine residency programs under the Virtua Health ACGME Sponsoring Institution and is currently named the “Virtua/Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine – Ambulatory Clinics Program” on the ACGME website due to this program formerly being part of RowanSOM, but before our name changed.

This program is still very closely involved with Rowan-Virtua SOM and applies the broad knowledge of medical school curriculum to both inpatient and outpatient clinical practice of medicine. The physicians excel in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy education and treatment. The program integrates true Osteopathic Philosophy and Practice while promoting a culture of cooperation and inclusion among the students, residents and faculty.

Notable Facts

  • The Family Medicine department has achieved Level 3 NCQA PCMH Recognition at four clinical sites.

Why Choose This Program?

This Family Medicine program prepares physicians for a successful family medicine career through our continuity clinic, education and community service. This program’s multidisciplinary approach to family medicine education complies with the core competencies established by the AOA and ACOFP.

In addition to traditional resident training and required conference presentations, the program offers several teaching opportunities and many of the residents choose to become teaching assistants in the OMM lab at Rowan-Virtua SOM.
